Antes del descanso navideño hice un pedido a Miren de TELARIA y como siempre está innovando y trayendonos patrones magníficos no pude resistir la tentación: Necesitaba un RENFREW. Solo hay que googlelear la palabra y ver todas las estupendas versiones que hay en la blogosfera. AQUI/HERE. Una camiseta con tres tipos diferentes de cuello y manga que, al parecer, queda genial a todo el mundo y da mucho juego. Y lo mejor de todo:¡ Rapidísimo de hacer!

¿Y quien no necesita una buena camiseta en verano o una más abrigadita en invierno?

Just before the Christmas break I order some goodies from Telaria, and Miren, who is always bringing us the most delicious things, had this RENFREW pattern I´ve been reading about everywhere. I couldn´t resist to try it!
I find this pattern so versatile and wearable and it looks like every body type looks great in it. You can just have a look AQUI/HERE. Three different neck lines and sleeves, and super easy and fast to make!
Who doesn´t need a good t-shirt in the Summer or a cozy sweater in the Winter?

Hice esta versión con uno de los puntos que compré en Bilbao, ya os lo contaba AQUI/HERE. El print psicodélico puede que no sea del gusto de todas. Necesitaba algo de color en mi armario invernal.

I made view A with the colourful knit I bought in Bilbao, I told you about it AQUI/HERE. Not to everyone´s taste, but I needed some fun, colourful tops in my winter wardrobe.

La banda del cuello de esta versión me dió bastante trabajo y tuve que hilvanar y deshilvanar tres o cuatro veces hasta que quedó perfecto. Lo que más me gusta es el largo de las mangas, a mi me gusta que me lleguen donde empieza el pulgar. La mayoría de los tops de las tiendas me llegan más arriba de la muñeca. Debo tener brazos de mono o algo...

I struggled with the neckband. It seemed too short, and I had to remove the bastings three times until I got it right. The arm lenght is exactly the one I like, reaching the begining of the thumb. Most of the RTW tops barely reach my wrists. I must have monkey arms!

Esta es la vista C, con el cuello grandote. En esta vista van las mangas tres cuartos, pero preferí el largo anterior. Por los fríos. Por error corté los puños de la tres cuartos, así que se ven demasiado grandes (pero fueron más fáciles de coser, el que no se consuela es porque no quiere)

This is view C, with the big cowl neck, but I didn´t want to add the three-quarter lenght sleeves. By mistake I cut the wrist bands of that lenght so now they look too big. (But it was easier to stitch them to the sleeves! :P)

Lo hice con un punto más calentito y más "picoso", creo que tiene lana en la mezcla.

I made it in an warmer, itchier knit, I presume it is a wool-mix.

And a gratuitous action shoot in case you were missing them. I know I did, but I didn´t find it appropriate for the NINOT JACKETS, ha,ha!

This post is about presents. One that I give away and one that I received.

First the one that I made for a friend. It will be delivered as soon as it stops raining.

I was going to photograph it on Roberta but then I thought that it wouldn´t be necessary. My friend and I are the same size. So the mannequin and I swap clothes, hihi!

El patrón es el Renfrew de Sewaholic, con el que hice los dos tops de la entrada anterior TWO RENFREWS AND A HALF, ahí teneis más detalles sobre en patrón. Lo que hice fué alargarlo, dandole la forma de la cadera, hasta una altura sobre la rodilla. Mi amiga tiene unas piernas preciosas, así que ¡A lucirlas!

The pattern is Renfrew from Sewaholic, with which I made the tops from the last post TWO RENFREWS AND A HALF, where you can find more details. I simply made it longer following the hips contour and lengthen the hem above the knee. My friend has beautiful legs!!

Now, my present from COATS.

They are still celebrating their second century in the sewing world by releasing this pretty vintage box.

It contains 10 thread bobbins in very, very useful colours. The quality is Coats Duet Brilliant Performance. 100% polyester. I always buy good bobbins, even if my fabrics are not first rate. My sewing machine is, and she refuses to be fed with poor quality threads!!!

I´m so grateful to Maider! I wear leggings very often, but only for sporting activities.

Learning to make the pattern with her clear explanations has been very enlightening, so much so that I think I´ve got the pattern-making bug. I´ll keep you posted about that particular.

Como os decía: Para mí los leggins son para hacer deporte. Después de tantos años, soy un poco "particular". Tienen que caer a medio gemelo, de cintura baja y cuantas menos costuras mejor.

Y siguiendo las instrucciones de Maider he conseguido lo que queria...menos el color.

So, leggings for me are just for training. After so many years I´m very particular about the kind I like wearing: low rise, mid-calf and as little seams as possible. With Maider´s instructions I now have exactly what I like...minus the colour! (brown leggings? really?)

En la tienda solo tenían lycra marrón. Parece ser que ese es el único color que encuentro. Creo recordar que me hice un bikini en ese color hace dos años.Es como la maldición.

But that´s all the lycra colour they had in my fabric shop. I remember making a bikini out of the same brown lycra. Looks like I´m doomed to get only that shade.

Detalle de la cinturilla y bajos. Como ya sabeis no tengo remalladora, así que lo he cosido todo usando puntada elástica y/o normal y en los bajos un zig-zag de 2/2

Detail of the waistband and leg cuffs. I haven´t got an overlock. I sewed all of it using regular and/or stretch stitch plus a 2/2 zig-zag stitch in the cuffs.

Cuatro meses de hacer y deshacer, como Penélope pero sin ningún Ulises a quien esperar. Una tragedia griega.

Four months of knitting and...erm...unknitting?, just like Penelope but without any Ulises to wait for. A real greek tragedy.

Con diez años mi madre me enseño a echar los puntos, a lo del derecho y revés que debe ser como ir bici, porque no se me había olvidado, pero de ahí a hacer algo con forma. Me ha ayudado telefónicamente Maria del Mar de Granada. ¡Hola guapa. A ver si nos vemos pronto!

Y en vivo y en directo la señora Juani, a la que quiero mucho, mucho.

Aged ten, my mother tought me how to cast the stitches and to make the basics: rib, stocking and garter... Well it looks like knitting is like riding a bike and it came back naturally after so many years. But what I didn´t learn back then was how to make anything shapely. I had to ask for help (via telephone) to the best knitters I know. They still failed to put some knitting sense in my brain.

Pues eso. Tú le dices a tu hija que le vas a hacer un jersey, le preguntas que como lo quiere. Ella te dice que le da igual pero que tenga una carita contenta en el centro...

But you tell your daughter that you are going to make a jumper for her and you ask her how she wants it. She tells you that she doesn´t care as long as it has a smily face on the front...

...Se lo haces desear durante cuantro meses. Y cuando por fín se lo das para que se lo ponga aunque sea el mayor churro y la boca de la carita esté torcida, y le quede un poco grande, se convierte en la prenda más especial del mundo. Y eso, queridas mías, es el mejor premio para esta Penélope.

....Then you make her wish for it for four long months. When it´s finally hers, even if it is the biggest flop, the smile is all crocked and the jumper is just to wide for her, it suddenly becomes her favorite piece. And that, my darlings, is the best price for this Penelope

Bueno pues esto es lo que he cosido esta semana. En realidad tambien un bañador, pero no está el tiempo para fotos.

Centrémonos: Vestidos de punto. Me he hecho adicta este año.Que son cómodos y calentitos y rápidos de hacer.

Compré la tela, que es de bastante buena calidad muy rebajada. Pero, el patrón de ESTE/THIS ONE no me convencía y el del RENFREW DRESS pues tampoco, porque este punto es gris y soso y necesitaba un patrón que animase el tema. Así que fuí a mi cajita de Vogues a ver que había...

It is a bit chilly where I live right now so I´ve been sewing more knit dresses. I´ve got addicted to them this year. They are comfy, warm and fast to make.

I bought the knit fabric in a sale for a very good price. Then I thought that the pattern of ESTE/THIS ONE dress here would be too plain and so would be the one of the RENFREW DRESS. So I turned to my treasure chest, where I store all my Vogues. This is what I found...

¡Oye, y si que se animó la cosa!

Al principio yo decía, ¿Para que querrán poner las pinzas en la espalda, si es elástico? Es que esto es entallado pero a base de bien.

Vista de espaldas, o lo más cerca que pude sin matarme por ese terreno.¡ Estoy agarrada a una raiz!

Pretty! And I tell you my fabric is good for this pattern in all its plain-ness. I don´t think a busy print would work so well.

It is such a close fitting! I was trying to figure out ,while cutting, why on earth would the want to sew back darts, after all it is a knit! Well, it is a veeery close fitting.

El único trabajo que tiene el vestido es hacer los pliegues. Después va todo rapidísimo.

El patrón pedia cremallera y forro. Pero ya les voy pillando el truco a estos Vogues y no le he puesto ni lo uno ni lo otro.

It is also very easy to put together. Only marking and basting the seams was a bit time consuming if you want to get them right. After that everything goes really fast.

The pattern asked for a back zipper and lining. But we are getting to know each other, Vogue: I didn´t put neither! Ha!

¿Veis? Los vestidos grises también pueden poner de buen humor! :D

Uno de mis propósitos de Año Nuevo es coser cosas que sean realmente necesarias.
Hay tres cosas que se usan a diario por las chicas de esta casa: maillots o bañador, leggings y bolsos de deporte.
De momento estoy con los bañadores.
La niña va seis dias a la semana a la pisci y ya está hasta arriba de los bañadores del Decartón. Y yo no la distingo desde las gradas porque todas las niñas llevan el rosa.

One of my New Year resolution was sewing really necessary things. (seems to be the same resolution every year)
There are three things that are used daily by the girls of my house: Swimming-suits or/and leotards, leggings and sport bags.
Right now I´m dealing with the swimmin-suits.
My girl goes swimming six days a week, she really can benifit from my sewing here!

Y vosotras me direis, ¡pero esto es una malla, no un bañador! ¡Ay, hijas mías! es que el patrón venía con los leggings y yo todavía no había hecho el master MASUSTAK para hacerlos yo misma con estas manitas...

A la niña le da un poco igual que no sea abierto por la espalda, pero en cuanto le coja el truco lo empezaré a modificar a mi gusto...espero.

And you´d say,"but this is not a swimming suit, it is a leotard!" And you´d be right. But when I was looking for the patterns, I found this one. I mean, two patterns for the price of one...And the girl doesn´t care much about the back, I´m planning on modifying that as soon as I get the knack of this kind of sewing.

KWIKSEW 2727

Esta versión es la primera prueba que he hecho con una licra un poco maleja y brillosa que había por casa ( no me pregunteis por qué la compré, no tiene explicacion...) Los del Kwiksew pasan de forrar el bañador, ni siquiera la entrepierna, y esto al ser una prueba tampoco lo lleva, pero para las próximas versiones yo creo que va a ser lo suyo.

This is the first version I made with a very cheap and shiny lycra I had at home (I have no good excuse for having purchased such a terrible thing)
The instructions in the pattern didn´t say a word about lining the leotard, but I´ll be adding it next time.

De talla parece que le va bien. Aún así le voy a hacer las aberturas de las piernas un poquito menos prietas y abrir la sisa.

Size-wise it looks o.k but she told me it is a bit tight around the legs and arms, so maybe the elastic should be less tight??

¿Sabiais que la gran Katharine Hepburn se daba baños de agua helada todos los dias? Y vivió muchos años.
Aquí en el Estrecho el agua esta fría. Fría de salir con rodetes rojos y blancos en la piel...Tiene que ser buenísimo para la circulación.
Así que hay que correr un buen rato antes de que te entren ganas de echarte a nadar. Con ese propósito (correr y nadar) he hecho esta maya de playa

Sometimes I don´t know how to call things: this, in my head, is a beach leotard, because I use it for training purposes when I go running and swimming on the beach. And , even though it is sunny here, it is also chilly, but they say swimming in cold water is good for your circulation... Katharine Hepburn used to do that every day and she lived very long years, right?

Todavía no tengo el "truqui" para coser bañadores, cosas como el largo de puntada exacto, pero será cuestión de practicar.

I´m not an expert in this swimming-costume bussiness and I still haven´t got the secret to the exact stitch lenght and things like that, but I guess it is a matter of practice.

Este patrón también lo compré antes de que Maider nos enseñara a hacer leggings, para mi era un plus, lo que me llamó la atención fué la espalda de "nadadora" y que el patrón incluyese las instrucciones para hacer un "suje" incorporado...luego os lo enseño por dentro.

I bought this pattern because of the race back and the shelf bra lining, and the leggings too!

KWIKSEW 2797

Tuve que hacer algunas alteraciones al patrón, como quitarle 4 cm de talle...debajo del ombligo, y la espalda lo mismo, claro.
Luego al verlo puesto me doy cuenta de que, visualmente el escote delante no está muy proporcionado, creo que debería ir más alto, y otra cosa que no me gusta es que aplasta demasiado el pecho...¡A ver! no me quejo, que de lo que se trata es de poder correr sin que se mueva, pero si alguien tiene alguna sugerencia :)

I had to alter the pattern, 3 inches less in the crotch area. I took them from the front and the back.
Now, looking at it on me I see that visually, the scooped neckline looks too low, like it is not in proportion...and also it flattens the chest so much...I´m not complaining, it doesn´t move when I run, which is the purpose of it, but wouldn´t it be nice that it also look good? Any suggestions?

Por dentro. La lycra que es gordita y de calidad me la mandó la incomparable Charo de Cosiendo y Aprendiendo, y el forro lo compré en Bilbao, en ESTE/THIS encuentro costurero.

¡Hola, amiguitas! Cuanto tiempo ¿eh? Es que no llego nunca al RUMS , que le vamos a hacer...

He estado cosiendo, pero todavía no os lo puedo enseñar (¡Aaah, se siente! :) He seguido con el tema de los bañadores, pero no hay nada reseñable que enseñaros . Y tambien he cosido un bolso.

Necesito urgentemente una bolsa de deporte, mis hijos idem y ¿que me coso? Pues un bolso elegante y regio... Bueno, ha sido por practicar el guateado y eso. Será por excusas...

Y cuando encuentre las telas adecuadas haré las otras dos bolsas: La mediana para el gimnasio y la grande por si alguien me invita a un fin de semana en un "resort" de lujo o similar. Será por pedir...

Hello friends! Long time no see! I´ve been sewing a lot, things that I cannot show you yet and I´ve also been working on my swimsuit, but nothing remarkable... And I sewed up a bag. I urgently need a sports bag, and so do my kids, and what do I make? an elegant bag! Well, my excuse was learning how to quilt...

When I find the perfect fabric I will also make the other two bags: one for the gym and the other one for a hypothetical weekend in a luxirious spa or something... Dreaming is free, right? ;)

¡Hombre, no me digais! Es como para quererlos todos, ¿no?

La máxima dificultad ha sido encontrar los artículos metálicos Las argollas deberian haber sido rectangulares, y yo llevo de las de sujetar toldos ( lo que tienen en la ferretería) Y los mosquetones tambien bastorros, pero esa es la maravilla del DIY, te apañas con lo que tienes y consigues un resultado más o menos digno.

Aren´t they cute? The most difficult part was finding the "hardware" those D rings and the carabiner (?) I had to buy them in the hardware store, where they normally sell them for hanging the sunshades. That´s the beauty of the DIY, using what you can get to achieve decent results.

El guateado ha sido lo más engorroso (que no dificil, eh?) Si quereis probar y nunca lo habeis hecho yo os recomiendo el fantástico y clarísimo tutorial de LA MODISTA DE ATENEA a.k.a. Diana. Yo he usado la barra para acolchar que tiene mi máquina, pero el truco de la cinta de carrocero me parece genial.

Quilting was the most tedious part, not difficult, though. There is a great tutorial from the lovely Diana of LA MODISTA DE ATENEA. I used this little bar that came with the sewing machine, but the trick she uses is really clever

And the last photo. As you can see the bag falls at the exact length to go bumping the bag with the hip as you walk. Something that I dislike a lot. But, the short handles are just fine!

Pauline ya ha sacado su nuevo patrón AQUI y por segunda vez he tenido la suerte de ser su probadora.

Esta vez se trata de una blusa con todos los detallitos que os podais imaginar.

Es muy dulce, con el canesú con lorzas, la abertura polo, el cuello mao, su manga fruncida el en puño...y luego el bajo redondeado típico de las camisas de siempre, el detalle del botón y la trabilla para recoger la manga. Vamos que no le falta de nada.

Pauline´s latest pattern has been released HERE and for the second time I have the honour to be one of her testers.
This time around it is a very pretty blouse with all the little details you can imagine.
It is so sweet: the tucked bib, the polo neck opening, the gathered sleeve into the delicate cuffs and the placket to keep the sleeve up for a more casual look...Did I miss anything? Oh,yes! The curved hemline :)

Creo que es una camisa muy equilibrada. Yo pensaba que las blusas no eran lo mío. Sin embargo esta ya la he puesto un par de veces cada vez me siento mejor con ella.

I think this is a very balanced blouse... I thought blouses were not "my thing" until I made this up. I wore it a couple of times and I´m getting used to it.

Las instrucciones que incluye Pauline con el patrón son clarísimas y a mi me ha sorprendido muy gratamente lo fácil que resulta con su método hacer el cuello polo, los pliegues, la inserción del canesú. De verdad os lo recomiendo no solo por la blusa en sí, si no porque vais a aprender a hacer todas estas cosas de manera muy clara y sencilla.

De mi cosecha solo añadí las costuras francesas.

Y estoy bastante orgullosa de mis pespuntes. Estoy siguiendo un curso de CRAFTSY que se llama "40 tecnicas que toda costurera debería saber" de Gail Yellen. Y me está resultando muy util.

En una de mis locuras transitoria me apunté a tres clases más, ya os iré contando...

The instructions Pauline includes in the pattern are really clear and I was very surprised to see how easy it was to make the polo opening and the yoke insertion. I made those before but never found it as easy as per her instructions. The only thing I added were the french seams.
I´m very proud of my top stitching. I´m following this CRAFTSY class by Gail Yellen "40 techniques every sewer should know, and she gives very useful tips for topstitching and many other subjects.
I also enrolled in three more classes, but I´m going very, very slow (I take notes of everything!)

¡Hola! ¡Cuanto tiempo sin veros! Ultimamente parece que tengo menos tiempo para coser o blogear lo que coso. Entre los cursos de patronaje de CRAFTSY, que son muy laboriosos, y la vida misma, que lo es más, solo me ha dado tiempo a este cardigan y a un disfraz carnavalero para mi niña...y a una Negroni, pero el modelo no encuentra el momento de lucirla, así que habrá que esperar.

Hello! Long time no see! It seems that lately I have less and less time to sew or blog. I´ve been very busy with the pattern-making classes at CRAFTSY, and with life itself. I sewed an indian costume for my daughter, and a Negroni for my husband but there is not photographic evidence of that yet. I also sewed this cardigan for myself.

Total, que cuando ví ESTE/THIS tutorial de SEW, COUNTRY CHICK! tan bonito, tan sencillo y estiloso me acordé de esta tela de lana que me había dado mi suegra. Metro y cuarto. Me encantó la primera vez que la ví pero no me daba para lo que quería hacer: un chaquetón para la niña, porque hay que casar los cuadros que igual son demasiado grandes para ella, hay que poner vistas... y ahí estaba la tela, huérfana. Fué ver el Tuto de Justine y saber que ya había encontrado el proyecto perfecto. Y como dentro de poco la niña se va a poder poner las cosas de su madre, no tengo remordimientos, jiji!

When I read ESTE/THIS tutorial by SEW, COUNTRY CHICK! I knew I had to make it! So pretty and stylish, easy and fast, I just had to! Besides, my mother-in-law gave me this kind-of-ethnic fabric a long time ago, 125 cm long or so, I wanted to use it to make a coat for my daughter but there was not enough fabric (you have to match the squares, make facings...) so it was lying there, orphan... I think it was waiting to become just this! And no remorse: soon my daughter will be tall enough to wear it.

Me gustan mucho los bajos redondeados, las bandas frontales y las "mangas" que yo he hecho más largas que la versión de Justine, para poder recogerlas o bajarlas. No he querido casar las bandas frontales, para que no quedara tan "plano"

I used up all the fabric. I love the round hem, the front bands and the "sleeves" that I made a bit longer so that I can wear them folded or down. I didn´t want to match the front bands, to make them stand out.

También tenía dos botones grandes y bonitos que me dió mi madre y que nunca habían encontrado hogar. Pues ahí creo que quedan estupendos. ¡Y mirad que textura tan bonita tiene la tela!

I also had those two big and pretty buttons my mother gave me and had been in my button-box for four years. They´ve also found a home in this cardigan. And look, what a nice texture the fabric has!

Los bajos los acabé con bies azul, porque quería sacrificar lo mínimo posible el largo.

Creo que es una prenda perfecta para vestirse "modo cebolla" así en capas, ahora que uno no sabe si se va a asar o a pelar de frio.

I finished the hems with blue bias, I didn´t want to sacrifice the lenght of the cardigan by making a regular hem.

I think this is a great piece for layering, now the weather is getting crazy.

Total, que después de unas cuantas muselinas, y dentro del curso de las faldas Patternmaking basics: The Skirt Sloper he hecho esta falda que ya se ha quedado con el nombre "Falda de Profe de Inglés" En realidad es una prueba y usé una tela a la que tengo un poco de manía, pero una vez hecha ¡oye, que me ha gustado! Que me veo yo como muy profesional...

Did I tell you I´m really busy with some CRAFTSY classes? Well, I am.

I´ve been watching carefully, taking notes, taking measures, doing my math, drawing lines, drawing a moulage, a sloper...the works!

After some muslins and for the class Patternmaking basics: The Skirt Sloper I´ve made this skirt. It even has a name "The English Teacher Skirt". It is really another muslin, made of a fabric I didn´t like much, but once finished I quite like it! It makes me feel very "grown up" very professional! :D

Ni siquiera está forrada, pero he terminado las costuras y el bajo con bies.

Una de las cosas que podían ir mal es que el pliegue quedase abierto cuando estás de pie. ¡Prueba superada!

It is not even lined, but I finished the seams with bias tape.

One of the things that could go wrong was that the pleat wouldn´t close when standing...check!

La costura del medio ha quedado un poco "fuera de hilo" pero es un error de corte. No quise meter la costura para arreglarlo un poco por si me cargaba el pliegue. Recordad que es/era una muselina...

The center seam is a bit off grain. It is a cutting mistake. I didn´t try to fix that sewing it because I thought it would affect the pleat. Remember it is/was a muslin

La vista lateral no tiene nada de especial, pero al llegar a la parte de atras... ¡Horreur! ¿Que son esas arrugas horizontales debajo de la cinturilla?

Y más importante: ¿Porqué pasa eso?

The side view has nothing remarkable but when we get to the back... What it that! What are those horizontal

wrinkles under the waistband?

And most importantly why does that happen?

¿Puede ser que he subido un par de kilos desde que me tomé las medidas? ¿Puede ser que tengo una espalda rara,rara?

Coser para mi marido no es facil. Supongo que no lo es para ninguno en general. Pero esta vez le ha gustado el resultado y solo espero que se ponga esta camisa, porque lleva mucho cariño y atención. Más que cuando coso para mí.

Sewing for husbands is no easy task. At least for me. But this time I think I succeded and he is really happy with his new shirt. He´d better!! I put a lot of love attention into making it. Much more than when I sew for myself!

Yo elegí esta pana suavita y la tela para los detalles , algodón floreado, no me convenció mucho al principio, pero ahora con los botones y el hilo a juego me encanta.

I chose this grey corduroy and flowery cotton for the facings and detail trying to think "like a man" Gosh, that´s difficult! When I got home I wasn´t very confident that I made the right choice, but once I found those buttons and the matching thread...Love!!

Para construirla seguí las indicaciones del patrón paso por paso, pero para los detalles del topstitching y de la forma de planchar mientra cosía usé los métodos que incluyen la clase 40 TECHNIQUES EVERY SEWER SHOULD KNOW BY GAIL YELLEN

For the construction, I followed Colette instructions religiously but for the details, more specifically, the top stitching, I used what I´m learning from 40 TECHNIQUES EVERY SEWER SHOULD KNOW BY GAIL YELLEN

¡¡Por fín una bolsa de deporte a mi medida!!

Después de pasear arriba y abajo una bolsa medio destrozada de Kellogs, y otra del año de maricastaña, creo que ya era imperativo que me hiciera una bolsa medio decente.

En mi mercadillo hay lonetas estampadas a porrillo (ahora, no pidais estampado fino, majas, todo así a lo bestia) y al ver esta de las "converse" ya no lo pude dejar pasar. Era el destino que me decía: hazte la bolsa, hazte la bolsa...o igual no era el destino y era CHARO, que en cuestión de bolsos es la que corta el bacalao.

At last, a sports bag that fits my needs!!

After using assorted commercial bags (the one from Kellogs was not that bad) or really old ones, it was imperative that a sewist like me would make one that she didn´t have to hide from the sight of the world.

There are a lot of print canvas fabrics at my local market (don´t look for delicate, small prints though. It is all big and bright!) and when I saw this Converse print, I just couldn´t ignore it. I don´t enjoy making bags. I love the creations from this lady CHARO, she is a master, but I dont feel comfortable sewing 90º angles.

La podía haber acolchado como sugería el patrón, aunque creo que mi cupo anual ya lo he cubierto con ESTE/THIS. Solo he entretelado la parte de abajo hasta donde empieza la cinta. Eso sí, una entretela de las más tiesas que he visto nunca. El fondo lo he reforzado también con doble capa de goma eva.

In the pattern they suggest to quilt the fabric, but I already covered my annual quilting with ESTE/THIS other bag. I interfaced the bottom and sides up to the point where the strap starts. I used one of the stiffest interfacing I´ve know so far. Also I reinforced that area with some rubbery material, I cannot find the English name for it. Something similar would be "Soft and Stable" that I saw in a tutorial HERE

¡Si es que si no caso algo, no soy feliz! Tambien me gusta el detalle de usar dos cremalleras y abrirlo desde el centro y no desde un lado.

I just had to match something, right? I like the use of two zippers meeting at the center, so that you don´t have to open the bag from a side.

El interior. Hay bolsillos dentro. Dos normales y otro con cremallera. Más los dos exteriores. Como contraste usé otra loneta de rayas. En las instrucciones no llevaba bies en las costuras, pero la verdad, yo creo que siempre queda mejor si se lo añades. Para rellenar el bies use una lana gordita que tenía por casa.

Inside: two open pockets and one zippered , plus two outside that makes 5 pockets to loose the keys more efficiently. I used that striped canvas as contrast and even though the instructions didn´t call for it, I added the piping on the seams. I used thick wool to make it.

Tres meses dandole vueltas a la idea de una bomber jacket (o cazadora de toda la vida) reversible, desde que encontré las telas, hasta que tuve totalmente claro como iba a construirla, no me he puesto manos a la obra.

Three months I spent thinking about this jacket, from the moment I got the fabric until it was totally clear in my head how I was going to construct it.

Mientras estaba ideando el modo de hacerla, y encontrando las cositas que me hacian falta he ido viendo en la cose-blogosfera diferentes bombers que me han dejado con la boca abierta:

Lo primero fué el patrón. En realidad no quería que fuera manga ranglan, pero no me ha quedado de otra y he usado este patrón:

First problem was the pattern. I didn´t want it to be a ranglan sleeve, but I couldn´t find what I wanted so I caved in and used this one:

La versión original lleva un canesú en la parte de la espalda en forma de pico. Como no me daba la tela, y aprovechando mis nuevos conocimientos patronísticos (ajem) le he puesto un pliegue horizontal para romper la monotonía de la espalda.

The original version has a pointy yoke in the back. I thought it was a nice feature, but I didn´t have enough fabric. Instead I used my reciently adquired pattern-making skills (ahem) and made a horizontal pleat to break the monotony of the back

Mucha costura exterior. La tela verde es un "punto de neopreno" o al menos así le llaman en la tienda. Es una especie de ponte más brillante y con más cuerpo. Bueno de trabajar pero sigue siendo elástico. Y eso para hacer costuras externas es un poco problemático. Para estas costuras usé una puntada de 3.5 mm

A lot of top stitching. The green fabric is a "neoprene knit" or so they call it at the store. It is like a shinier, heavier ponte knit to me. It is good to work with but it is still elastic. That for top stitching is not nice. I used a 3.5 mm stitch

Otra de las dificultades de esta tela es hacer el bolsillo riveteado. Puse estrela por detrás, pero aún así, y cambiando la tensión del hilo, la costura quedó un poquito ondulada.

Making the pocket was not easy because of the fabric. I interfaced it, but even changing the tension of the thread, it got a bit wobbly

La otra parte es satén floreado con una caida preciosa, ligera...Y poco facil de trabajar. A esta parte no le añadí bolsillos. Una vez montada la uní a la otra parte por el elástico de abajo y el cuello y por la parte exterior la parte de la cremallera.

The other part is a flowery satin, lovely...but not easy to work with. I didn´t add pockets to this side. Once it was costructed I joined both parts and the rib knit on the hems and neck line. Then, on the outside, to the zipper

Y por último las mangas que las fruncí y cosí a mano.

And lastly the cuffs. I gathered those and handstitch them.

Como la tela de puño tenía poco cuerpo la entretelé con la tela de punto

As the rib knit was not very stable, I interfaced it with the knit fabric.

¡Hola guapas! Una cosa rapidita antes de que empiecen las vacaciones de Semana Santa y desaparezca del mapa y el mundo blogeril.
Primero contaros que, por tercer año consecutivo, me he apuntado al Me-Made-May de Zoe, cada año, el 31 de Mayo me he dicho "nunca maix" pero después pico...¿Por qué? porque siempre descubres blogs nuevos y haces amistades, a nivel más personal te das cuenta de lo que falta en tu armario, y sobre todo tienes 31 dias de hacerte selfies ¡ja! Un poco estresante, si, pero ya que te vas a hacer una foto, te arreglas, así que Mayo es mi mes más arreglao. No me pillarás sin rimmel en las pestañas.
El año pasado, para no aburriros con el tema, no os fuí contando, pero aquí os dejo un pequeño resumen del M.M.M del 2013. ¿Otra razón más para participar? M.M.M. son mis iniciales :D

Hello dears! Just a quick thing before the Easter holiday start and I disappear from the blogging world.
Firstly, for the third year I´m in Zoe´s Me-Made-May. Each year when the month ends I say "This is the last one" because it is difficult to keep up with the flickr group and also take a photo every day while trying to look good in it. That means make up...or sunglasses. Well, a bit stressing. But then I also meet a lot of new bloggers and I can see and get inspired by many, many lovely makes they show us.
Last year I didn´t post about it, not to bore you too much, so here is a little recap of my MMM 13.
Another reason to participate? M.M.M. are my initials? :D

I´m not sewing much, lately. All my sewing-time goes into learning pattern making with Suzy Furrer who is a wonderful teacher. She is very clear and all her instructions make sense in my little brain, that is not the best for numbers. You can check it out here at CRAFTSY

Llevo ya unas cuantas muselinas y creo que me voy acercando.Al principio tenía la longitud de espalda muy larga y el pecho muy alto. Ahora mismo estoy arreglando un problemilla de hombro y ya estará todo listo para pasarlo al patrón base definitivo.

I´ve done several muslins. In the first one the bust was too high and the back too long. I went back to drafting from scratch, with more accurate measures, and got number two. I thought the waist was sitting too high but I was wrong. On number three I´ve got a shoulder problem that I think I figured out and now I´m really close to draw the sloper.

Espero poder hacerme algún vestidín antes que termine el verano...por que la clase de las mangas todavía no ha salido :D

¡Hola hermosas! Cuanto tiempo, ¿eh? Nada, que es que sigo liada con lo del patronaje, de momento he hecho un conjuntillo, pero lo que tiene patronear es que te da por hacer cosas raras, independientemente de que te siente bien o mal. Total que me ha salido un engendro al que necesito acostumbrarme antes de sacarle fotos.
Pero hoy os traigo otra cosita que os recomiendo de corazón. Hace un par de meses dando una vuelta por mi tienda de telas favorita, TELARIA, me quedé obsesionada con los shorts que vienen con el patrón Class Picnic. Sin exagerar. No veía como se construía el pantalón ni como sería el patrón, y cada vez me gustaban más...incluso para mí. (gente de Oliver & S, por favor ¿talla adulto?)

Hello ladies!! Seems like a long time from my last post! I´ve been sewing lately: first a top and a skirt to practice pattern- making, but the risky part of this very creative side of "self-fashion" is that suddenly your designs have nothing to do with the kind of clothes that suit you and a lot with practising tricky things that you´ve learned. I need to get used to the stuff I made before showing it to you...

Instead, today I´ll show you something that I heartily recommend. A couple of months ago, I was having a look at the kids patterns over at TELARIA, and I got obsessed with the shorts in this pattern, Class Picnic by Oliver & S. I couldn´t figure out how the shorts were constructed, or how the pattern for them was, and why wasn´t an adult-sized version of it!

Así que me puse en contacto con Miren, alma y cabecita pensante de TELARIA, y le pedí que, por favor, me eligiera ella las telas para hacer el conjuntito. Como siempre acertó de pleno.

Grand Mosaic en Blue es un algodón finito y fresco, perfecto para trabajarlo

Chambray Union Stretch Indigo, es precioso y al tener un poco de "stretch" es perfecto para usar en los shorts de una saltimbanqui como mi hija. Os dejo con unas fotos con niña dentro.

So I contacted Miren, the soul and thinking head behind TELARIA and asked her to choose the fabrics for me. I´m a little challenged when it comes to choose the fabrics on-line, and she has great taste and always get it right. Just judge yourselves! She sent me:

Chambray Union Stretch Indigo, the perfect match! And because it is stretch, it´s perfect for my little acrobat´s shorts!

Me ha encantado este patrón. Era la primera vez que coso algo de Oliver & S y las instrucciones son estupendas y hacen que termines con una prenda muy bien acabada. Aquí os dejo con un par de detalles.

I loved working with this pattern. It is the first time I sew up something from Oliver & S and I have to say the instructions are over the top! They are so thorough that your final product is perfectly finished with a lot of pretty details. Here is a couple of them:

El tallaje es de 5 a 12 años, he usado la talla 10 para mi hija, y solo espero que me de tiempo a hacerle alguna versión más antes de que le de por pegar otro estirón.

The sizes in my envelope went from 5 to 12 years old. I used size 10 for my daughter and I hope I have enough time to make another version before she gets another of her growth spurts!

¡Hola otra vez! Que pesadita estoy, hijas, que os echo de menos ¿Que quereis?

Bueno, bueno...os traigo una cosita que no sé. Compré este satén en la quedada de Bilbao, sin tener ni idea que hacer con él, pero ese cabezota de tigre se tenía que venir a casa.

La intenté meter como la "otra cara" de la Bomber Jacket pero no cabía, despues barajé varias opciones y al final opté por la más sencilla: repetir el Shawl collar cardigan by Sew Country Chick

Here is the latest addition to my wardrobe. I´m not really happy with it, but there! I bought the fabric with the tiger head print in Bilbao on a whim, with no clear idea about what do make of it.

First I thought of making the "other side" of the Bomber Jacket but the head was too big. After discarding some other proyects I thought the best idea was to repeat the Shawl collar cardigan by Sew Country Chick

Contanté con Maider para que me intentara encontrar la misma tela y utilizarla para hacer las mangas y el cuello...te debo una, amigacha!!! Al final no lo he usado, pero lo dejo por si me da otra rebechina zoológica.

I contacted Maider to make me a big favour; try to find the same fabric again to use the solid part to make the sleeves and collar. I owe you one, dear!

¿Qué es lo que ha ido mal? Coserlo. Las costuras se emburruñan, he probado a cambiar la tensión del hilo y nada: se frunce ello solo. Y así se ha quedado, porque yo solo descoso una vez.

What went wrong? Sewing it! the seams gather the fabric and it doesn´t look at all polished. I tried changing the thread tension, but it didn´t work out, so after unstitching it once I left it as it was.

¿A que se nota? Pues sí. Ahora no sé si hacer un cinturón y usarlo para casa o comprarme un par de guantes de boxeo y empezar una carrera pugilística. Me lo pensaré. Lo malo es que ya hay una Mercedes Martinez en la lucha libre Mira, Mira!

It shows...a lot! Now I don´t know whether to make a belt and use it at home or buy a couple of boxing gloves and start a new carreer...bad news is there is a Mercedes Martinez already in the wrestling business

I doubt this blogs has any readers left: I´ve been a very bad blogger. I don´t visit yours, I have abandoned mine, I didn´t sew anything and I only have a little time to take a photo for the Me-Made-May ´14 challenge before rushing to work. I have an alibi, though: I´ve been studying because tomorrow I have to take an exam, and I had to put my nose to the grindstone (funny expression, isn´t it? I´ve just learned it! :)

¡Hala! Ya está terminado el exámen. Creo que ha ido bastante bien, pero hasta el 30 de Junio no tendré los resultados. Así que ya tengo más tiempo y poco a poco me iré poniendo al día con vuestros blogs.

Las Tendencias
He comprado revistas de moda ultimamente (bueno, al menos una, pero venía con otra de regalo ji,ji) y he encontrado unas cuantas tendencias que me encantan o me parecen interesantes, me encantan las faldas con volante en el bajo en todas sus versiones.

The Trends

I´ve been buying some fashion magazines lately ( mmh, well at least one of them) and I´ve found some of the trends for the season really pretty or interesting.

Love the flouced skirt in all its versions

Las rayas siempre vuelven en verano...y ¿a quien no le gustan?

The stripes, always making a come back for the summer. Who doesn´t like stripes?

Y el top cortito. Este es interesante...¿Cuánto tiempo ha pasado? Me acuerdo que yo los llevaba de jovencilla, junto con Madonna, Whitney y las chicas de Bananarama. ¡Si no enseñabas el ombligo no eras nadie!

And the cropped top. That´s the interesting one. How long has it been? I remember wearing cropped tops in my teenage years, along with Madonna, Whitney Houston and the Bananarama girls.

Después de darle vueltas a estos temas me compré uno piqué a rayas y otro blanco y me puse a trabajar.

So I got some white and stripey piqué and set to work.

My Take. Mi Versión

Ultimamente os estaba comentando lo del curso de patronaje en Craftsy, lo bueno que es, todo lo que estoy aprendiendo y bla,bla,bla...pero todavía no os había enseñado que no fuera una muselina. Después de crear el patrón base viene lo divertido. La manipulación de pinzas es muy interesante y estoy deseando terminar de empaparmela bien para pasar a la clase de diferentes tipos de cuello.

After the Slopers, where you get the base for the rest of the courses, comes all the fun. I find dart manipulation fascinating and I can´t wait to get to the different necklines!

¿Lo veis? manipular pinzas es divertidísimo, y puedes crear muchos efectos. Aquí pasé todas las pinzas del top a una "linea de estilo" que va desde el pecho al cuello diagonalmente. En el bajo corte en una ligera linea curva desde el centro del frente donde es más alta hasta el centro de la espalda donde es más baja
La pinzas de la espalda va manipulada hacia el centro abajo, tambien en diagonal para continuar con el estilo del frente.
Aquí podeis ver el puzle que es mi patrón.

See? Dart manipulation is fun! I dumped all the darts into a style line from the neck to the high figure point, then drew a slight curve on the bottom of the pattern that is higher on the center front and continue towards the back in a slight downwards curve.

The back waist dart is manipulated to the center back in a diagonal and the shoulder dart goes into the armhole.

Then I drafted the facings, here is my puzzle for your enjoyment. :)

Admito que me emocioné con la falda. Quería volante y ya lo tengo pero a veces lo que tú quiere no es necesariamente lo mejor para tí, creo que sabeis a lo que me refiero...

Sin embargo, hacer el patrón resultó muy entretenido y didáctico. El volante lleva vistas, para que quedase más levantado.

I admit I got carried away on the skirt part. I wanted a flounce and I got it, but sometimes what you want is not the best for you.

Nevertheless, making the pattern for the flouce was very enterteining!

And it has facings for a stiffer look.

Seguro que vosotras, avezadas costureras habeis visto la pifia de la cinturilla. Cuando estaba a mitad de trabajo me dí cuenta de que esta falda no es para mí, demasiado femenina, demasiadas lineas curvas, demasiado corta...¡Vamos que no! Ha estado a punto de terminar en el cubo de la basura varias veces pero la verdad es que me dolía tirar el dinero que gasté en la tela. Y ya sabeis lo que pasa cuando un proyecto no te emociona, que no le pones mucho interés. Ahora tendré que arreglar la pifia y santas pascuas.

Oh, yes! You spotted that lousy waistband closure! When I was half way through the process of making this, I realized it was not a good look on me, too girly perhaps, then the fabric was stiffer than the one I used for the muslin and it was too tight. I opened the seams a bit. Nope. I was about to forget about it and make an A-line instead but thought of the money I´ve spent on the fabric...and I finished it half-heartedly. Now I´ll have to tackle that band!

Y esto es lo que llevé para el MMM ´14 el dia 16...haciendo trampa porque enseguida me quité la falda, me puse unos shorts y una chaqueta y ¡hala, a pasear niños a sus actividades! Si no me la quito igual en lugar de a la piscina me los tengo que llevar a un cocktail o algo así.

And this is what I wore for M.M.M. ´14 on the 16th. Cheating a bit. As soon as I finished with the photos I put on my denim shorts and a jacket and off I went driving the kids to their activities, otherwise I should have take them to a cocktail party or something!
